Angel “SGN” Romero is a seasoned educator and published author with over nine years of experience across secondary and higher education settings. He currently serves as the English Development Coordinator at Valor Academy High School in the San Fernando Valley. He is passionate about building inclusive and dynamic learning experiences designed to leverage the unique talents of all students. To operationalize this mission, he grounds his work at the intersections of culturally responsive teaching and character development. More specifically, Angel Romero’s work analyzes the relationship between culturally responsive curriculum and student engagement to produce humanizing learning experiences for both students and educators alike. He uses insights from urban education and educational psychology to identify research-driven ways to close the achievement gap, particularly for marginalized students.
Mr. Romero is also keen on supporting students and teachers through personal growth literature. His first book This Foo: 7 Lessons for Burros and Bag Chaser$ has been well-received by professionals and community members working at the intersection of urban education, mental health, youth empowerment, and personal growth. The book creatively delivers seven soul-piercing lessons using relatable language in order to unpack practical wisdom and guiding principles. High school and college educators working with urban youth are particularly drawn to This Foo’s unprecedented culturally responsive ethos and light-hearted approach to heavy topics of the heart. Collaboration with other educators and community stakeholders is central to his work
